Since high school, I have been collecting quotes wherever I find them: books, songs, films, advertisements, emails, overheard conversations.
Initially, they were written in pen, preferably black, on yellow lined pages in a spiral notebook with heavy green cardboard covers. The spirals were doubled-over for extra strength. The notebook accompanied me to university, then Washington DC, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and distant compass points.
Eventually, I typed the contents into a Word document, where they remained for many years, always growing. The transfer to the web represents the final evolutionary step and the fruition of a heartfelt, if modest, dream.
The randomized nature is essential to the perusal of the collection. No item is more primary than any other. The chronological order in which they were entered has no significance.
I have only one rule: Once a quote goes in, it never comes out.
Enjoy.
